Head of Medical, Canada

Job Summary  (Primary function):
Reporting to the General Manager – Canada and as a founding member of the Canadian Incyte Leadership team, Head of Medical is in charge of Medical Affairs in Canada and leads all medical affairs activities implementing the corporate medical strategy in Canada.

Essential Functions of the Job  (Key responsibilities):
•  Analyze and provide Medical Affairs input to the Canadian Leadership Team.
•  Develop and maintain long-term collaborative relationship with local medical experts. Participate in medical & scientific exchanges with the medical/scientific community.
•  Organize national advisory boards and investigators meetings in accordance with the medical plan and participate and/or facilitate data presentation and discussion at these meetings.
•  Create and develop local Clinical operations strategy and implement local clinical studies sponsored by Incyte, especially for pivotal trials for market authorization filing: center selection, administrative authorizations, qualitative and quantitative objectives.
•  Oversee company (Incyte Biosciences Canada) sponsored trials and facilitate investigator sponsored trials or research.
•  Create and Manage local Medical Affairs team including MSLs to develop and maintain effective relationships with thought experts and investigators.
•  Provide education, assessment and trainings to eventual Medical Affairs team and eventual local field force.
•  Represent the company at medical meetings and other related activities.
•  Provide medical review and sign-off of promotional and training materials.
•  Provide medical review and sign-off of medical drug information letters, slides, custom responses, publications, medical education grants, and other medical affairs materials as needed.
•  Monitor and organize /prepare national projects. Be the key person within the Canadian affiliate for medical projects.
•  Coordinate with other members of the Incyte Canadian Leadership team, with input and collaboration from Global and Regional and U.S. Medical Affairs, the preparation and implementation of the local Incyte Canadian medical strategic and operations plan.
•  Participate to Executive Committee meetings.
•  Prepare and monitor the overall budget of the Canadian Medical Affairs Department.
•  Contribute positively to a strong culture of business integrity and ethics.
•  Contribute to guarantee the respect of the quality commitment of Incyte Biosciences Canada.
•  Contribute to respect of rules concerning healthcare professionals with the medical department.
•  Act within compliance and legal requirements as well as within company guidelines.
•  Contribute to pharmacovigilance activities.
•  Lead and/or participate on department committees.
•  Hire, train and supervise Medical Science Liaison Associates as company grows in Canada
•  Work closely with internal local, global and regional Regulatory Affairs associates and consultants
•  Contribute positively to a strong culture in living the Incyte values and respecting business integrity and ethics.
•  Act within compliance and legal requirements as well as within company guidelines.

Qualifications (Minimal acceptable level of education, work experience, and competency):
•  PhD, MD or MD/PhD, Pharm.D. with relevant prior experience will be considered
•  10 years in academic, clinical, and /or industry setting required.
•  Hematology/oncology pharmaceutical experience required, prior knowledge of dermatology and autoimmune indications an asset.
•  Familiarity with Good Clinical Practice/International Clinical Harmonization FDA, EMEA and Health Canada regulatory requirements as well as clinical trial design, biostatistics, medical writing, product safety, and Canadian drug, biologics regulatory affairs.
•  Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex or technical content in a convincing way to both technical and non-technical audiences.
•  Excellent leadership and management skills
•  Ability to influence and work effectively across functions and operate in a matrix environment
•  Prior experience in high growth situations, with breadth of experience and span often seen in start-up environments
•  Fluency in English (oral and written) required
•  Ability to work with national, regional and global colleagues
•  Prior management of direct reports with a view to building a team as Company grows its Canadian footprint
•  Ability to travel, as required
•  Canadian Head office location: Montreal
