Director, HEOR

Job Summary  (Primary function)
The Director, Health Economics and Outside Research develops and implements HEOR strategies to support the value of Incyte products and pipeline compounds.

Essential Functions of the Job  (Key responsibilities)

  • Support implementation of the current HEOR strategic plan and assist in developing future strategies.
  • Identify HEOR evidence requirements and gaps.
  • Design, conduct, and deliver studies and tools to support the value of Incyte products. Design and conduct prospective and retrospective observational studies, real world database analyses, and PRO analyses of existing clinical trial datasets, cost effectiveness and budget impact models, to demonstrate product value.
  • Support epidemiology studies to better understand disease burden (incidence and prevalence), market size, and unmet medical need.
  • Provide strategic input and recommendations to clinical development programs by identifying study design elements to deliver evidence needed for payer submissions including identifying appropriate target patient populations, comparators and study end-points.
  • Identify and execute research initiatives with US organizations, including managed care, PBMs, pharmacy, IDNs, medical groups, patient groups and health care policy makers (e.g. PCORI).
  • Provide oversight in the development and implementation of Patient Reported Outcomes (PRO) measures that will support PRO end points for potential inclusion in product labeling and support product differentiation. Develop and validate PRO endpoints for inclusion in clinical studies.
  • Keep informed of current and future industry and regulatory issues that may impact planning for and implementation of HEOR program and discuss at relevant cross-functional team meetings.
  • Evaluate relevant HTA decisions and apply key learnings to pipeline and marketed products. Develop submissions to various health technology assessment (HTA) agencies to secure reimbursement requirements.
  • Deliver as needed HEOR presentations to customers to support optimal reimbursement and formulary decisions.
  • Analyze, interpret, and make informed conclusions from HEOR studies for inclusion in study reports, presentations and publications.
  • Collaborate and work closely with field (e.g. MSL, and Account teams) and in-house teams to support managed markets initiatives.


Qualifications (Minimal acceptable level of education, work experience, and competency)

  • Master’s degree with 10 years’ experience in the health economics and outcomes research field or doctoral degree (MD, Ph.D., Phar.D., ScD) with 7 years of HEOR experience (doctorate preferred).
  • Higher level degree in a HEOR-related field (e.g. health economics, epidemiology, health services research, public health or policy) strongly preferred.
  • Experience in oncology, rare diseases, and pharmaceutical/biotechnology settings is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of the drug development & commercialization process, HTA assessment methodologies, global reimbursement environment, US payer landscape and regulatory requirements. A good working knowledge of epidemiology and health policy is desirable.
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external vendor partners.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Demonstrate leadership by working through cross-functional teams.
  • Active listening skills to help translate the needs of the team into actionable projects.
  • Proficient time and project management.
