Associate Director - Senior Director, In-vivo Pharmacology

Associate Director - Senior Director, In-vivo Pharmacology 

Job summary:

This position will report directly to the Vice President, Small Molecule Discovery Biology and Preclinical Pharmacology and will serve as a member of the senior preclinical pharmacology leadership team. This individual will be a part of the preclinical discovery team within the Incyte Research Institute, a world-class organization of nearly 300 scientists dedicated to the discovery and advancement of novel therapeutic approaches to revolutionize the treatment of cancer.

The Preclinical Pharmacology team has built one of the most robust and innovative pipeline in the biopharmaceutical industry, with 15 small molecules currently in or entering clinical development.

Key responsibilities 

  • A member of in-vivo pharmacology leadership overseeing a team of scientists (PhD and BS/MS) providing program support in both Oncology and Immuno-Oncology areas;

  • Program leadership for multiple preclinical research efforts;

  • Leadership of Incyte’s new target identification effort, which includes genome mining, functional screens and mechanism validation;

  • Oversight of academic and industry collaborations, including specific Joint Steering Committee leadership responsibilities;

  • Maintain an excellent grasp on emerging areas of cancer research and new therapeutic strategies;

  • Ensure high quality data to support decision making on individual compounds and programs and effectively communicate research to executive leadership;

  • Advocate early development strategy, biomarker selection, and combination approaches for new development programs;

  • Maintain strategic focus across multiple complex drug discovery projects in prioritizing recourse allocation to drive decisions consistent with corporate goals;

  • Effectively collaborate with other functions in the discovery and development organizations.


  • PhD in biological sciences including molecular/cell biology, pharmacology, Immunology, or biochemistry with focus on Oncology

  • 10+ years of experience in an academic and/or industry settings

  • Extensive experience with in vivo cancer models, including tumor xenograft models, primary tumor models, and syngeneic and genetically-engineered mouse models with an in depth, state of the art working knowledge of using these models to establish pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic relationships and assessing anti-tumor efficacy of pharmacological agents.

  • Competency in cancer genomics, target mining/validation and functional screens including 3D/ex-vivo/in-vivo screens.

  • Experience in managing/leading external collaborations with academic and industry partners.

  • Proven track record of publications in high impact areas of Oncology.

  • Prior experience managing a team of scientists.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
